Why Marriage and Family Matter - Everywhere in the World

Why Marriage and Family Matter - Everywhere in the World

(remember I am using the "language of faith" meaning I am wording the counsel and teaching "as if" I already believe or am already doing it. All bold type is my insertion.)

  • I believe in the sanctity of the institution of marriage and of the importance of families as the basic unit of a stable society, economy, and culture of values.
  • I am united with others (who are still the majority) on the values and loyalty and commitment which are naturally associated with family units.
    • a committed marriage and family lifestyle is the most sensible, economical, efficient and happiest way to live.
  • Marriage and family-centered priorities cut across and supersede any political, economic, or religious differences.
  • My faith adds the eternal perspective of the restored gospel to these discussions with others - families are eternal and are the basic units of eternity and of the kingdom and government of God.
  • The entire theology of the restored gospel centers on families and on the new and everlasting covenant of marriage.
  • I lived premortally as a spirit child of God. We were there and still are here, members of His family.
  • I participate with my church in worldwide movements to strengthen marriage and family. Strong majorities worldwide still want to have children and create strong families and subsequently share many of the same struggles, adjustment, hopes, worries, and dreams for our children.
  • I am better off enshrouded in commitments that transcend personal choice - commitments to family, God, craft and country - than I am to my own personal freedom to do as I please.
  • I am aware that the minority is masquerading as the majority in the media and entertainment and that they do not reflect the priorities and values of the majority. I do not let them make me feel out of date.
  • I help support others in creating a strong marriage and family.
  • I want my voice to be heard
    • against all of the counterfeit and alternative lifestyles that try to replace the family organization that God established.
    • in sustaining the joy and fulfillment that traditional families bring.
    • in declaring why marriage and family are so important, that they really do matter, and why they always will.
  • It is around marriage and family that I have the greatest opportunity to be a light on the hill.
  • The family is the center of my life and the key to my happiness.

    GENERAL CONFERENCE CHALLENGE:
  • Unite with others and raise my voice to support and defend marriage and family
  • Be a light on a hill around marriage and family
  • Make the family the center of my life
