David A. Bednar
(link to talk)(remember I am using the "language of faith" meaning I am wording the counsel and teaching "as if" I already believe or am already doing it. All bold type is my insertion.)
- I know fear is a distressing emotion that is likely to produce a negative outcome. It comes from:
- impending danger
- uncertainty
- pain
- unexpected experiences
- sudden experiences
- My fear is dispelled through my correct knowledge of and faith in Jesus Christ - the only source of enduring peace.
- Fear (a potent emotion) was one of the first effects of the Fall and is an important element of my mortal existence.
- I access power through the knowledge of the Lord, to dispel fear and provide peace when I confront great adversity and face the uncertainties of the future. This power and peace are real. My heart is not troubled or afraid.
- I hush the fears that so easily and frequently beset me, by remembering the Lord will deliver me as only He can.
- Christ rewards me with peace as I learn of Him, listen to His words, and walk in the meekness of His Spirit.
- I have hope in the Resurrection and eternal life because I trust Christ. This brings me peace of conscience.
- I am always ready to rely on His merits, mercy and grace.
- Repentance, through the power of the Atonement quells my despair when I sin.
- The power of the Atonement strengthens me to see, do, and become good in ways I can never recognize or accomplish on my own.
- I view mortality through the precious perspective of eternity and am spiritually settled in my consistent focus on my heavenly destination.
- The doctrine of Christ provides purpose and direction in all aspects of my life.
- The covenants and ordinances I received fortify and comfort me at all times, assuring me that the things that matter most can endure now and forever.
- I conquer my fears and strengthen my faith by looking to Christ and fixing my focus on Him firmly, at all times and in all places. I am not diverted by the "wind and the waves".
- I look unto Christ in every thought. I doubt not. I fear not.
- I hush my fears as I firmly establish my desires and deeds upon the sure foundation of Christ and the building blocks of ordinances and covenants, so the devil has no power over me.
- I faithfully remember and honor my sacred covenants and do my best to live in accordance with the obligations I have accepted. This bond is a source of spiritual strength and stability in all of the seasons of my life.
- I press forward with steadfastness in Christ. I have a perfect brightness of hope and a love of God and of all men.
- I feast upon the word of Christ and endure to the end.
- My spiritual understanding, vision, persistence, patience, and God's grace bring disciplined endurance.
- I exercise faith in and on the holy name of Jesus Christ.
- I meekly submit to His will and timing in my life and humbly acknowledge His hand in all things.
- I cheerfully persevere and live a "peaceable life in all godliness and honesty."
- I am blessed to hush my fears as I receive the fortitude that comes from learning and living gospel principles and resolutely pressing forward on the covenant pathway.
- Godly fear brings me peace, assurance, and confidence, not alarm or anxiety, and comes from
- my correct understanding of the divine nature and mission of Christ
- a willingness to submit my will to His will
- a knowledge that I will be accountable for my own sins in the Day of Judgement
- I have a deep feeling of reverence, respect, and awe for
- the Lord Jesus Christ,
- obedience to His commandments, and
- anticipation of the Final Judgment and
- justice at His hand.
- My godly fear is
- the beginning of my knowledge;
- the instruction of my wisdom and
- a strong confidence and
- a fountain of life.
- I understand the Final Judgment and my individual accountability for my desires, thoughts, words, and acts.
- I will not be afraid of Him at all.
- My fear of the Lord comes from knowing I will face things as they really are about myself. I will have a perfect knowledge of all my rationalizations, pretenses, and self-deceptions and will be left without excuse.
- I fear God and keep His commandments. This is my whole duty.
- The bright light of godly fear chases away the dark shadows of mortal fears.
- In my godly fear, I love and trust Him.
- As I fear God more completely, I love Him more perfectly and that perfect love casteth out all fear.
- I know I cannot be good enough or measure up relying solely on my own capacity and performance. My works and desires alone do not and cannot save me but I am made whole through the mercy and grace through the atonement.
- I will be saved by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel.
