The Comforter

The Comforter
Henry B. Eyring

(link to talk)

(remember I am using the "language of faith" meaning I am wording the counsel and teaching "as if" I already believe or am already doing it. All bold type is my insertion.)

  • The Savior is at the center of my life
  • I remember him in music, prayer, and word.
  • I appreciate the Savior's infinite compassion for all.
  • I know the Savior knows me, loves me, understands all my sorrows, and wants to succor me.
  • I am surrounded by children of God whom he also knows and loves.
  • I am an important part of His giving comfort to those who need comfort and of their prayers for help in carrying burdens of:
    • grief
    • loneliness
    • fear
  • As a faithful servant, I
    • come to Christ with the heavy labors I must carry in life;
    • take his easy yoke and light burden upon me
    • learn of him
      and he gives me rest.
  • I feel compassion for the burdens of the good people that I love and help them.
  • I wanted to be counted in the fold of God and to be numbered among His people, so I made covenants that have changed my heart and nature. I promise to:
    • willingly help lighten the burdens of others
    • willingly mourn with those that mourn
    • comfort those in need of comfort
    • stand as a witness of God at all times and in all things and in all places
  • He promises to redeem my soul and raise me up in the first resurrection unto eternal life.
  • The gift of the Holy Ghost gives me the power to help lighten the loads of others, help them find relief and the strength to endure when they:
    • grieve
    • fear for their future
    • feel uncertain of their capacity to move forward
  • The Holy Ghost is the Spirit of Truth and:
    • teaches me all things
    • brings the words of Christ to my remembrance
    • brings me peace
    • replaces fear
  • I pray to know how I can help THE LORD comfort others.
    • I tell them that I love them.
    • I express to them that I have felt the Lord's love for them.
    • With FEW words, I tell them that I mourn for them, but only the Lord knows and has experienced perfectly their pain and grief.
    • I listen with love while they talk about their feelings.(much more than I talk...)
    • When others feel the comfort of the Holy Ghost, I give thanks for His influence that has come bringing hope, courage, and increased strength to all of us.
  • The Lord eases our burdens, even that we cannot feel them while we are still in bondage, SO that we will witness afterwards and know for sure that it s GOD that does visit us in our affliction.
  • I submit cheerfully and patiently to all the will of the Lord.
  • The best way I lighten the loads of others and help them better bear their burden, is to help the Lord strengthen their faith through bearing witness of Him and his Atonement.
  • It is my witness of the Savior that gives me the strength to endure as I pass through mourning and the lack of comfort from others who cannot see the joy that comes to the faithful after passing faithfully through their trials.
  • My strength grows as I continue to ask for it and live for it.
  • Blessings come in this life and the next.
  • The witness of the Spirit of the Second Coming of Christ sees me through the tests God has intended for me.
  • The Atonement provides me with the hope that comforts me no matter how hard the way home to Him may be.
  • Joy always comes after sorrow.
  • I witness to others that peace and comfort come from only one sure source (even after all I do)
  • Only God can truly say, "I know how you feel."
  • Charity never faileth and is the pure love of Christ. His love NEVER fails.
  • The peace He promises never leaves me as I serve others for Him.

    GENERAL CONFERENCE CHALLENGE:

    PRAY:
  • To know how to help the Lord comfort others
  • For my witness of the Savior; His Atonement and His Second Coming to increase - so my strength will increase
  • For charity and peace as I serve others for Christ.

    ACTION:
  •   Keep the Savior at the center of my life
  •   Act on my feelings of compassion for others to lighten burdens, mourn,
     and witness of God
  •   Express my love and the love of the Savior for them, and then LISTEN
  •  Express gratitude for and give credit to the Holy Ghost for the comfort
     received
  •  Submit cheerfully and patiently to all the will of the Lord
  •  Always witness of the Atonement.
