A Framework for Personal Revelation

We need to understand the framework within which the Holy Ghost functions. When we operate within the framework, the Holy Ghost can unleash astonishing insight.

Like many of you, I have been greatly influenced by Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf over the years. That explains, at least in part, what I am about to say.1 So, with apologies to him …

Well-trained airplane pilots fly within the capacity of their aircraft and follow directions from air traffic controllers regarding runway use and flight path. Simply stated, pilots operate within a framework. No matter how brilliant or talented they are, only by flying within this framework can pilots safely unleash the enormous potential of an airplane to accomplish its miraculous objectives.

In a similar way, we receive personal revelation within a framework. After baptism, we are given a majestic yet practical gift, the gift of the Holy Ghost.2 As we strive to stay on the covenant path,3 it is “the Holy Ghost … [that] will show [us] all things [that we] should do.”4 When we are unsure or uneasy, we can ask God for help.5 The Savior’s promise could not be clearer: “Ask, and it shall be given you; … for every one that asketh receiveth.”6 With the help of the Holy Ghost, we can transform our divine nature into our eternal destiny.7

The promise of personal revelation through the Holy Ghost is awe-inspiring, much like an airplane in flight. And like airplane pilots, we need to understand the framework within which the Holy Ghost functions to provide personal revelation. When we operate within the framework, the Holy Ghost can unleash astonishing insight, direction, and comfort. Outside of that framework, no matter our brilliance or talent, we can be deceived and crash and burn.

The scriptures form the first element of this framework for personal revelation.8 Feasting on the words of Christ, as found in the scriptures, stimulates personal revelation. Elder Robert D. Hales said: “When we want to speak to God, we pray. And when we want Him to speak to us, we search the scriptures.”9

The scriptures also teach us how to receive personal revelation.10 And we ask for what is right and good11 and not for what is contrary to God’s will.12 We do not “ask amiss,” with improper motives to promote our own agenda or to fulfill our own pleasure.13 Above all, we are to ask Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ,14 believing that we will receive.15

A second element of the framework is that we receive personal revelation only within our purview and not within the prerogative of others. In other words, we take off and land in our appointed runway. The importance of well-defined runways was learned early in the history of the Restoration. Hiram Page, one of the Eight Witnesses to the Book of Mormon, claimed to be receiving revelations for the entire Church. Several members were deceived and wrongly influenced.

In response, the Lord revealed that “no one shall be appointed to receive commandments and revelations in this church excepting my servant Joseph Smith … until I shall appoint … another in his stead.”16 Doctrine, commandments, and revelations for the Church are the prerogative of the living prophet, who receives them from the Lord Jesus Christ.17 That is the prophet’s runway.

Years ago, I received a phone call from an individual who had been arrested for trespassing. He told me it had been revealed to him that additional scripture was buried under the ground floor of a building he tried to enter. He claimed that once he obtained the additional scripture, he knew he would receive the gift of translation, bring forth new scripture, and shape the doctrine and direction of the Church. I told him that he was mistaken, and he implored me to pray about it. I told him I would not. He became verbally abusive and ended the phone call.18

I did not need to pray about this request for one simple but profound reason: only the prophet receives revelation for the Church. It would be “contrary to the economy of God”19 for others to receive such revelation, which belongs on the prophet’s runway.

Personal revelation rightly belongs to individuals. You can receive revelation, for example, about where to live, what career path to follow, or whom to marry.20 Church leaders may teach doctrine and share inspired counsel, but the responsibility for these decisions rests with you. That is your revelation to receive; that is your runway.

A third element of the framework is that personal revelation will be in harmony with the commandments of God and the covenants we have made with Him. Consider a prayer that goes something like this: “Heavenly Father, Church services are boring. May I worship Thee on the Sabbath in the mountains or on the beach? May I be excused from going to church and partaking of the sacrament but still have the promised blessings of keeping the Sabbath day holy?”21 In response to such a prayer, we can anticipate God’s response: “My child, I have already revealed my will regarding the Sabbath day.”

When we ask for revelation about something for which God has already given clear direction, we open ourselves up to misinterpreting our feelings and hearing what we want to hear. A man once told me about his struggles to stabilize his family’s financial situation. He had the idea to embezzle funds as a solution, prayed about it, and felt he had received affirmative revelation to do so. I knew he had been deceived because he sought revelation contrary to a commandment of God. The Prophet Joseph Smith warned, “Nothing is a greater injury to the children of men than to be under the influence of a false spirit, when they think they have the Spirit of God.”22

Some might point out that Nephi violated a commandment when he slew Laban. However, this exception does not negate the rule—the rule that personal revelation will be in harmony with God’s commandments. No simple explanation of this episode is completely satisfactory, but let me highlight some aspects. The episode did not begin with Nephi asking if he could slay Laban. It was not something he wanted to do. Killing Laban was not for Nephi’s personal benefit but to provide scriptures to a future nation and a covenant people. And Nephi was sure that it was revelation—in fact, in this case, it was a commandment from God.23

The fourth element of the framework is to recognize what God has already revealed to you personally, while being open to further revelation from Him. If God has answered a question and the circumstances have not changed, why would we expect the answer to be different? Joseph Smith stumbled into this problematic scenario in 1828. The first portion of the Book of Mormon had been translated, when Martin Harris, a benefactor and early scribe, asked Joseph for permission to take the translated pages and show them to his wife. Unsure of what to do, Joseph prayed for guidance. The Lord told him not to let Martin take the pages.

Martin requested that Joseph ask God again. Joseph did so, and the answer was, not surprisingly, the same. But Martin begged Joseph to ask a third time, and Joseph did so. This time God did not say no. Instead, it was as though God said, “Joseph, you know how I feel about this, but you have your agency to choose.” Feeling himself relieved of the constraint, Joseph decided to allow Martin to take 116 manuscript pages and show them to a few family members. The translated pages were lost and never recovered. The Lord severely rebuked Joseph.24

Joseph learned, as the Book of Mormon prophet Jacob taught: “Seek not to counsel the Lord, but to take counsel from his hand. For … he counseleth in wisdom.”25 Jacob cautioned that unfortunate things happen when we ask for things we should not. He foretold that the people in Jerusalem would seek “for things that they could not understand,” look “beyond the mark,” and completely overlook the Savior of the world.26 They stumbled because they asked for things they would not and could not understand.

If we have received personal revelation for our situation and the circumstances have not changed, God has already answered our question.27 For example, we sometimes ask repeatedly for reassurance that we have been forgiven. If we have repented, been filled with joy and peace of conscience, and received a remission of our sins, we do not need to ask again but can trust the answer God has already given.28

Even as we trust God’s prior answers, we need to be open to further personal revelation. After all, few of life’s destinations are reached via a nonstop flight. We should recognize that personal revelation may be received “line upon line” and “precept upon precept,”29 that revealed direction can be and frequently is incremental.30

The elements of the framework for personal revelation are overlapping and mutually reinforcing. But within that framework, the Holy Ghost can and will reveal everything we need to soar onto and maintain momentum on the covenant path. Thus we can be blessed by the power of Jesus Christ to become what Heavenly Father wants us to be. I invite you to have the confidence to claim personal revelation for yourself, understanding what God has revealed, consistent with the scriptures and the commandments He has given through His appointed prophets and within your own purview and agency. I know that the Holy Ghost can and will show you all things that you should do.31 In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Okay… this is one of those talks where what I heard and what the speaker thinks he said are probably not at all the same. But I believe the Lord can speak through whomever he chooses, to deliver the message he wants for “those who have ears to hear”. This talk hit me so differently than all of the others so far. And it’s super interesting that the messenger the Lord chose to deliver it is probably one that is most blind to its real message. (See Isaiah if you want to know what he said about leaders who would be blind…)

Elder Renlund’s Talk - Saturday, Oct 1, 2022, Morning Session

Well trained airplane pilots Pres. Nelson; Elder Renlund are “well trained doctors”  fly within the capacity mortal abilities and understanding of their aircraft the Church and follow directions from air traffic controllers Heavenly Father, the Savior, and the Holy Ghost regarding runway use office and flight path. the direction of the Church.  Simply stated, pilots operate within a framework. No matter how brilliant or talented they are, “Doctors” Nelson and Renlund only by flying within this framework can pilots safely meaning if they do not operate within this framework, it can be unsafe unleash the enormous potential of an airplane to accomplish its miraculous objectives. the church. If the urging to vaccinate was from God, then we have to trust that it has something to do with “unleashing the enormous potential of the church to accomplish its miraculous objectives”...although I can’t see how this does that...yet, perhaps? Or if they were in error, than the church has yet to “unleash its potential and miraculous objectives”...until God’s end-time servant appears?

In a similar way, we receive personal revelation within a framework The prophet has a framework; the members have a framework After baptism, we’re given a majestic yet practical gift. The Gift of the Holy Ghost. As we strive to stay on the covenant path, it’s the Holy Ghost that will show us all things that we should do. It is not the prophet that will show us all things we should do, but the Holy Ghost. Truly, he can tell us things God wants us to know/do, but we have the right to have that confirmed to us if we question whether it is in line with scripture and the commandments of God. Brigham Young said,

" What a pity it would be if we were lead by one man to utter destruction! Are you afraid of this? I am more afraid that this people have so much confidence in their leaders that they will not inquire for themselves of God whether they are lead by him. I am fearful they settle down in a state of blind self-security, trusting their eternal destiny in the hands of their leaders with a reckless confidence that in itself would thwart the purpose of God in their salvation, and weaken that influence they could give to their leaders did they know for themselves by the revelations of Jesus that they are led in the right way. Let every man and woman know, by the whispering of the Spirit of God to them- selves whether their leaders are walking in the path the lord dictates or not. This has been my exhortation continually. . . Let all persons be fervent in prayer, until they know the things of God for themselves and become certain that they are walking in the path that leads to everlasting life . . .”

Clearly, Pres. Young believed that church leaders could potentially lead members astray. We don’t seem to believe that is possible in our day. When we’re unsure, or uneasy, we can ask God for help. Everyone should have been unsure or uneasy when the covid vaccine was released. It was new. It was not tested long enough. There was too much pressure and threats and unclear and unconfirmed data about the disease and the vaccine. Everyone should have felt the need to ask God for help.  The Savior’s promise could not be clearer. “Ask, and it shall be given you. For everyone that asketh, receiveth. One possibility is that the prophet did not ask about the vaccine, because he did not feel uneasy or unsure about it. The promise is, “ask and you shall receive” not “you shall receive, even if you don’t ask”. Another possibility is that he was very careful to not use prophetic language because it was a personal feeling that it was a Godsend, as he relied on the expert testimony of Elder Richard S. Hutchins, an area seventy as well as an executive director for pharmaceutical sciences for Pfizer and he knew that he was relying on that. Or, he could have been told by God to comply with government urgings and trust that the people would understand the whole “lanes of responsibility” principle and the prior teaching to “Hear Him” and would all study it out and ask. Elder Renlund made it clear in a Church News interview at the beginning of Covid that it is “nonsensical to believe you will receive revelation on anything you haven’t studied”. So members who followed blindly, would have to learn obedience to the principle of revelation by the “things they might suffer.” Now, I know there are those who claim they got revelation to take it. I don’t judge that. God told Nephi to slay Laban. If you know it was a commandment from God, you are fine. But if you did it because you think it was a commandment because Pres. Nelson said it…well, you might be in for a lesson...I don’t think that if God told Pres. Nelson to urge us to take it, just to protect missionary work and government threats, but knew it was evil, or at least not proven to be safe, that he would have Elder Rasband going around the world and at General Conference pressing people to follow the counsel of the prophet in everything that he says. It just really makes me believe they thought it was a God-send. So we just have to figure out how they got it wrong and why God let them…

With the help of the Holy Ghost we can transform our divine nature into our eternal destiny. This applies equally to prophets and members. If you are not operating within the framework, no matter how experienced or smart or spiritual you are, you can be deceived and the results can be that you will crash and burn. Members could be deceived because they believe the counsel to get the vaccine was “in” the prophet’s lane, and it wasn’t. It certainly was some kind of a test…

The scriptures form the first element of this framework for personal revelation. Feasting on the words of Christ as found in the scriptures stimulates personal revelation. Elder Robert D Hales said, “When we want to speak to God, we pray. And when we want Him to speak to us, we search the scriptures. The scriptures that warn of the “evil designs of conspiring men in the last days” and the “hearts of men in our own land that seek to destroy us” are part of the foundation that leads to personal revelation about the Covid vaccine. Others that speak of the “whole world believing a lie” felt all too fulfilled as the whole world responded in chorus to the Covid narrative. Moroni’s warning that we would one day “awaken to our awful situation and see that the secret combinations have gotten above us” and that their goal is to overthrow the freedom of all nations is happening right now. Truly, the scriptures are the first element in our framework for personal revelation on this matter. This part is what makes it confusing to think the brethren were deceived about the vaccine. They certainly are more familiar with the scriptures than I am. They surely know more about secret combinations than I do. So why would they urge this vaccine when they must surely know who is behind it? This leads one to the conclusion God told them to, to keep the church moving forward and out of the sniper attacks. Maybe. But where is the God of Moses and Joshua and Nephi? Yet, there are times the Nephites were told to submit to bondage and wait for deliverance. I still think they could have just stayed silent like other churches and not be in the crosshairs. It just seems all too likely that they were blinded by their own “learning” as renowned doctors who had spent their early lives in the field of science and always supported vaccines as revelations from God. Why wouldn’t this be the answer to two world wide fasts to a prophet who was a doctor? It seems like such a personal answer to the most critical issue in his new presidency. Everyone would look to this “doctor/prophet” for reassurance on this medical “miracle”. The reality is they had been out of the field for half their lives and they surely needed the expert testimony of other scientists and doctors, who they would easily trust and believe as fellow colleagues. Elder Hutchins said in a Meridian Magazinearticle (that was quickly removed but has been saved here) that he believed it was a Godsend. I believe he thought it was. But like the Hoffman forgeries, the “experts” were wrong. And the prophet was wrong when he believed them then, and he’s wrong if he believed them now.    The scriptures also teach us how to receive personal revelation. And we ask for what is right and good and not for what is contrary to God’s will. We do not ask amiss, with improper motives to promote our own agenda or to fulfill our own pleasure. Above all, we’re to ask Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ, believing that we will receive. I did not want the prophet to be wrong on this. I had to wrestle with many things to find a way for him to be a true prophet of God and to sustain him as such. Because my motives were to do what was right and good and I believed I would receive an answer, I received it. I still think he’s the prophet and this is God’s church. I just stopped believing he couldn’t make any mistakes and redefined what it means to sustain.

A second element of the framework is that we receive revelation only within our purview and not within the prerogative of others. In other words, we take off and land on our appointed runway.   What you take into your body is only within your purview if it is outside the direct word of the Lord. “Counsel” and “urging” from the prophet did not take the decision away from each member. It did not become a part of the word of wisdom or temple worthiness. Sustaining the prophet as a prophet, seer, and revelator, was not called into question (per the church handbook) if you did not wear a mask or get the vaccine. It remained a personal decision. It wasn’t in his lane.    The importance of well-defined runways was learned early in the history of the restoration. Hiram Page, one of the eight witnesses to the Book of Mormon, claimed to be receiving revelations for the entire church. Several members were deceived and wrongly influenced. Here we have a “leader” in the church claiming to know what God wanted people to do. Some believed him, but in doing so they were deceived and wrongly influenced.  We have had leaders today who also claim that God wants everyone to follow the prophet’s counsel as a sign of sustaining him and not to question his counsel. Those who blindly followed this counsel were deceived and also wrongly influenced.  In response, the Lord revealed, that no one shall be appointed to receive commandments and revelations in this church, excepting my servant, Joseph Smith, until I shall appoint another in his stead.  Again, the vaccine was not a commandment nor a revelation. Just before and after their August “urging” they made statements about the Salt Lake and Manti temples and used very specific language about the mind and will of the Lord that was absent from any statements about the vaccine. Doctrine, commandments, and revelations for the church are the prerogative of the living prophet who receives them from the Lord Jesus Christ. That’s the prophet’s runway.

Years ago, I received a phone call from an individual who’d been arrested for trespassing.  He told me it had been revealed to him that additional scripture was buried under the ground floor of a building he’d tried to enter. He claimed that once he obtained the additional scripture, he knew he’d receive the gift of translation, bring forth new scripture and shape the doctrine and direction of the church.  I told him that he was mistaken and he implored me to pray about it.  I told him I wouldn’t. He became verbally abusive and ended the phone call.  I didn’t need to pray about this request for one simple but profound reason: Only the prophet receives revelation for the church.  It would be contrary to the economy of God for others to receive such revelation which belongs on the prophet’s runway.

Personal revelation rightly belongs to individuals.  You can receive revelation, for example, where to live, what career path to follow, or whom to marry. And whether to vaccinate yourself or your children, either with vaccines that have been around for decades or ones that are new. Though the church has supported vaccines and still spends millions to send them around the world, it is still considered a personal decision that does not call into question one’s worthiness before the Lord.  Church leaders may teach doctrine and share inspired counsel, but the responsibility for these decisions rests with you.  That’s your revelation to receive.  That’s your runway.  Again, that is why it’s not been considered a worthiness issue, no matter what leaders teach and counsel or how inspired they claim it is

A third element of the framework is that personal revelation will be in harmony with the commandments of God and the covenants we’ve made with him.  Consider a prayer that goes something like this:

“Heavenly Father, Church services are boring.  May I worship Thee on the Sabbath in the mountains, or on the beach? May I be excused from going to church and partaking of the sacrament but still have the promised blessings of keeping the Sabbath Day holy?”

In response to such a prayer, we can anticipate God’s response.

“My child, I’ve already revealed my will regarding the Sabbath Day.” When we ask for revelation about something God has already given clear direction we open ourselves up to misinterpreting our feelings and hearing what we want to hear. What if Pres. Nelson felt like the Lord had already revealed his will about vaccines 40 years ago and didn’t feel the need to “ask again” if they were okay…I have heard some people  say that since they have received a witness that Pres. Nelson is a prophet, that they don’t need to pray about anything that he says. Pres. Nelson himself said that he never puts a question mark after something the prophet says. Perhaps that means he never felt the need to pray for confirmation about anything prior prophets have said. But, my theory is that for him, it meant that you sustain their decision, even if you disagree with it. If you look into the issue with the name of the church, you will find that prior to the “I’m a Mormon” campaign, Elder Nelson in April 1990 gave a talk about the importance of using the full name of the church and not the nickname. Pres. (counselor) Hinckley gave a talk at next conference saying we should make the best of what the world calls us. The prophet, Pres. Monson then spent millions on the “I’m a Mormon” campaign. Shortly after Pres. Nelson becomes prophet in 2018, he gets rid of everything “mormon” except on historic items and says "To remove the Lord's name from the Lord's Church is a major victory for Satan. When we discard the Savior's name, we are subtly disregarding all that Jesus Christ did for us — even His Atonement..if we allow nicknames to be used and adopt or even sponsor those nicknames ourselves, He is offended. " Clearly, his feelings about the name of the church did not change while he was an apostle under Pres. Monson’s direction and I’m sure he supported the program as directed by Pres. Monson without putting a question mark after it. But he didn’t believe it was right and pretty much said so when he became prophet. So right there he is teaching that prophets can get things wrong. He thought Monson got it wrong, and I think future prophets will say Pres. Nelson got the vaccine wrong.

A man once told me about his struggles to stabilize his family's financial situation. He had the idea to embezzle funds as a solution; prayed about it; and felt he had received affirmative revelation to do so.  I knew he had been deceived because he sought revelation contrary to a commandment of God.  Maybe the prophet was deceived in making the statement to the church because he sought permission to do something that was outside his lane, which was contrary to the commandment of God?

The Prophet Joseph Smith warned, “Nothing is a greater injury to the children of men than to be under the influence of a false spirit when they think they have the spirit of God.” In this case, the injury is literally one to our bodies. Some might point out that Nephi violated a commandment when he slew Laban.  However, this exception does not negate the rule - the rule that personal revelation will be in harmony with God’s commandments. No simple explanation of this episode is completely satisfactory. But let me highlight some aspects. The episode didn’t begin with Nephi asking if he could slay Laban slay Laban. It wasn’t something he wanted to do. Killing Laban was not for Nephi’s personal benefit, but to  provide scriptures to a future nation and a covenant people and Nephi was sure that it was revelation. In fact, in this case, it was a commandment from God.

The fourth element of the framework is to recognize what God has already revealed to you personally, while being open to further revelation from Him. If God has answered a question and the circumstances haven’t changed, why would we expect the answer to be different. This could easily fit the vaccine narrative. If they believed God had already given his approval for vaccines and that the circumstances hadn’t changed, why would they think His answer would be different if they asked again? Maybe they asked but weren’t getting an answer and this was their explanation. But the circumstances had changed (some would argue that there’s been deception about vaccines from the beginning, so one way to look at it is that the circumstance of being deceived about it hadn’t changed either…)

Joseph Smith stumbled into this problematic area in 1828. The first portion of the Book of Mormon had been translated when Martin Harris, a benefactor and early scribe, asked Joseph for permission to take the translated pages and show them to his wife.  Unsure what to do, Joseph prayed for guidance. The Lord told him not to let Martin take the pages. Martin requested that Joseph ask God again. Joseph did so, and the answer was, not surprisingly, the same. But Martin begged Joseph to ask a third time and Joseph did so. This time, God didn’t say, “no”. Instead, it was as though God said, “Joseph, you know how I feel about this. But you have your agency to choose.”  Feeling himself relieved of the constraint, Joseph decided to allow Martin to take 116 manuscript pages and show them to a few family members. Did a similar situation exist with Pres. Nelson and the governments/gadiantons pressuring him to make a statement? The translated pages were lost and never recovered.  The Lord severely rebuked Joseph. Is this rebuke coming? If this is a “lost manuscript” kind of mistake, I pray the Lord has prepared a remedy just like he had for the Lost Manuscript hundreds of years before. Only time will tell.

Joseph learned, as the Book of Mormon prophet Jacob taught: “Seek not to counsel the Lord, but to take counsel from His hand. For He counseleth in wisdom.”   Jacob cautioned that unfortunate things happen when we ask for things we should not ?? He foretold that the people in Jerusalem would seek for things they could not understand, don’t seek for a vaccine when you don’t understand the dark history and fraud behind them look beyond the mark, and completely overlook the Savior of the world.   As the true physician and great healer. Elder Renlund himself shared a story where an individual came to him when he was Bishop to be told if he should take medications or rely on faith healing He read the scripture where Moroni chastised Pahoran for not sending men and supplies, accusing him of doing nothing and not “using the means that God had provided”. The man took the medicine. The teaching seems to be that God has provided modern medicine and it is wrong to not use it and ask God to heal you instead. As one who does not trust modern medicine for most things, I have a hard time accepting that as truth. How many times did the Savior heal without asking the person what else they had tried? And of course we have the woman who touched His garment and was healed after spending her whole life savings trying the medical solutions to no avail. We have much to learn about faith healings, I fear.  They stumbled because they asked for things they would not and could not understand. Or stumbled because they didn’t ask for things they would not and could not understand. Can you imagine the cognitive dissonance if God told them that vaccines were of the devil, after they’ve spent millions vaccinating the children of the world and telling millions of members and missionaries they should vaccinate? Why does God allow that kind of deception? Perhaps because they do not ask and would not believe….

If we have received personal revelation for our situation, and the circumstances haven’t changed, God has already answered our question.  For example, we sometimes ask repeatedly for reassurance that we’ve been forgiven. If we’ve repented, been filled with joy and peace of conscience, and received a remission of our sins, we don’t need to ask again, but can trust the answer God has already given.

Even as we trust God’s prior answers, we need to be open to further personal revelation. Even if he gave revelation about prior vaccines, we need to be open to further personal revelation. Does the childhood vaccine schedule increasing exponentially not cause parents to at least ask questions? Doesn’t that show some “circumstance” has changed?  Afterall, few of life’s destinations are reached via a non-stop flight.  We should recognize that personal revelation may be received line upon line and precept upon precept; Gileadi says this is an incorrect interpretation of this Jewish idiom. He says it’s a lazy way to learn that revealed direction can be, and frequently is, incremental.  Waiting for the “incremental” revelation on the dangers of vaccines…

The elements of the framework for personal revelation are overlapping and mutually reinforcing.  But within that framework, the Holy Ghost can and will reveal everything we need to soar on to and maintain momentum on the covenant path.  Thus, we can be blessed by the power of Jesus Christ to become what Heavenly Father wants us to be.

I invite you to have the confidence to claim personal revelation for yourself,  and not pass it off to your prophet or leaders or family members understanding what God has revealed, consistent with the scriptures and the commandments He’s given through His appointed prophets, past and present and within your own purview and agency. Your body I know that the Holy Ghost can and will show you all things that you should do. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Lessons Learned:

  1. The Lord has a “framework” for revelation.

  2. The Scriptures are the foundation

  3. We receive revelation only within our purview and not within the prerogative of others. Stay in your lane.

  4. Personal revelation belongs to individuals. Church leaders can teach doctrine or share counsel but the decision rests with you.

  5. Personal revelation will be in harmony with the commandments of God.

  6. Recognize what God has already revealed. If circumstances haven’t changed, you don’t need another answer.

  7. Be open to further revelation if circumstances have changed or learning is incremental.

  8. By this, the Holy Ghost can show you all things that you should do.
